This is the story of the recently retired cricketing legend, Rahul Dravid. It is an examination of the characteristics that made him the remarkable cricketer and person that he is.
Summary Of The Book
The book traces the illustrious career of one of cricket’s all time greats. It examines the various attributes of the man who started his cricketing career in 1996 and finished it as a legend.
The book looks at the events and factors that contributed to shaping the career of Rahul Dravid, it relates his triumphs, and explores his trials and tribulations. It recounts his struggles to break free of the shackles and stereotyping that haunted him in his early years.
From this book emerges the tale of a young man who overcame his weaknesses and used his own strengths to carve out a niche for himself in all forms of the game. He is a man who gradually emerged from the shadows of his legendary peers to claim his own place.
The book highlights the mental, physical, and technical attributes that enabled Dravid to reach the heights he did in the game. His faith in the three Ds, which are dedication, determination, and discipline.
Dravid, though living in the shadow of Tendulkar, has created records and shaped victories for India that ensure that he is up there among the greatest players of all time. He was never a man content to rest on his laurels. What was more important to him than personal glory was always the team’s cause.
He is the first Indian to have scored five double centuries in test cricket. He was also the first Indian to score four centuries in four consecutive test innings, and the first test batsman to have scored a century against each of the test playing nations.
This book is a tribute to a man who has retained his humility and graceful conduct while still scaling incredible heights in his profession, a man who is appreciated both by his own teammates as well as the opposition. He is not just respected as a player, but also as a person.
The book contains reminiscences and tributes from his teammates, mentors, seniors, peers, and opponents. It also includes some exquisite photographs that have captured various moments in Dravid’s life.

This is one of the must read in biography category. :) It just mentions how hardwork, sheer persevaranceand patience can contribute to reach the goals. Taking minus points in his strides, always thinkin there is scope for improvement in what he does Rahul reached a pinnacle of success amongst the bunch of cricketers who thought individual is greater than game... Hats off to Rahul.. and hats off to Flipkart for giving me such a book...
its a good book on rahul dravid....its more about his innings and when he walked in to bat...his tough decisions.....it covers the dravid's entire career from 1996 till somewhere around 2005 approximately...his each innings is elaborated in a nice language....for a dravid's fan its a must read...rahul's career's down phase is also reflected by his struggle....only thing this book lacks is it doesnt cover his latter inning in his career since this book was written 6 to 7 years before his retirement...would have loved to read the writings of this author on Dravid's 2011 english tour....this book doesnt stand in line with the great man's another gem "timeless steel" , but its a good book...
but surely a must have to a dravid's fan..
devendra prabhudesai is a good author when it comes to writing of biographies...it's my second read after the biography on sunil gavaskar by the same author titled smg...in this book the walls life is wonderfully portrayed in a nice way that captivates the reader and entitles in a journey through ups and downs with the man rahul dravid, probably the most technically efficient batsman ever for india....flipkart does have a good collection of sports biographies..
The book seems to me the best example of how NOT to write a biography. Reproducing reports of each and every match someone had played and praising the player for this and that might not make the book a biography. At best it can be a lengthy report but I have read more reports with some life in them than this one. These words are too harsh, sorry, I could not help it.
I like this book. Very interesting highlighting both positives and negatives in Dravid's batting, ups and downs in the career, how he worked on negatives and improved and many more. The thing I liked very much in this book is collection of views on Rahul Dravid from various professionals in the Cricketing World(includes cricketers, commentators and media).
