During the early days of 2009, there was talk of a worthy successor to the very popular Nintendo DS. But it was only in mid 2010 that the official confirmation for a successor was announced in the form of the Nintendo 3DS and the 3DS XL. The Nintendo 3DS XL has its base covered thanks to a custom graphics processor that supports rich 3D visuals. The 3DS XL also possesses 2 screens, one on the top and one at the control panel. The top screen supports 3D graphics without the need for special 3D glasses. This effect is possible due to extensive research and development in the field of Parallax barrier display technology. The device also sports cameras with the ability to capture 3D images.
The Nintendo 3DS XL is one of the newer mini consoles brought out by Nintendo, the creators of the Wii and the Wii-U. The device is 134.6 mm wide, 73.6 mm high and has a depth of 20.3 mm. The device is lightweight and weighs in at a mere 226 g only. Being relatively lightweight, the device is easily portable and can be carried with you in your pocket or backpack for long journeys to fight boredom. The Nintendo 3DS XL supports rich 3D graphics thanks to its powerful GPU or graphics processing unit.
The sound quality on the Nintendo 3DS XL is far superior to the Nintendo DS and it sports Stereo Speakers for high quality sound deliverance. The device runs on the power supplied to it by the Lithium-ion Battery. Being a battery of this composition, it is rechargeable and can be used for long durations of time before it requires a recharge. The 3DS XL also features many new additions to the original designs of the DS. The device has a slider at the side to increase or decrease the intensity of the 3D effect. The device also sports a round analog flattened knob or a Circle Pad which helps in controlling features in the game or other forms of media played in the Nintendo 3DS XL. The device supports motion sensing thanks to the Accelerometer and Gyroscope installed within it. The camera on the 3DS XL supports 3 dimensional photography, and video.
The Nintendo 3DS XL is the bigger version of the 3DS and sports a larger screen. The system has an embedded microphone that can record high quality sound. Together with Wi-Fi connectivity it can be used for video calling with the help of the appropriate clients. The system supports IEEE 802.11/g with WPA / WPA2 security features. The screen resolution of the upper screen is 800 X 240 Pixels and that of the lower screen is 320 X 240 Pixels. The upper screen is 3.53 inches and lower screen is slightly smaller at 3.02 inches. There is also an SD Card slot that can be used for expanding the internal memory and perhaps for storage of extra games, movies or songs. The Nintendo 3DS XL supports motion gaming thanks to the appropriate sensors present within it. Care should be taken while playing 3D games in the console by engaging the 3D mode as it might prove confusing and irritating for young children who are still in the developing stage. It is recommended that the 2D mode be used for very young children. The system also sports an audio jack to connect your earphones or headphones into, to experience quality sound.

Even though the 3DS XL is big, it is still smaller than Sony's new portable, the PS Vita when closed. Yet open the 3DS XL and you are in for a treat. The screen is big and gorgeous, with a better and deeper 3D effect than the original model. The system is also more comfortable to hold during long play sessions, and the improved battery means you can play longer and keep the screen brighter. Even details such as the product's finish... a matte metallic surface, is an improvement over the original 3DS's fingerprint-magnet glossy look.
This bigger system fixes all the little problems of the original.
So i've seen many people confused whether to buy the 3ds xl or the vita believe me this i a thousand times better i have both the vita and the normal 3ds and xl and performance and battery wise this is better it looks better it feels better and it is 3 grand cheaper than vita
The nintendo 3ds xl is a very innovative turn in the gaming world. Before I bought it I always had the notion that nintendo was only good for rpg platform but I was mistaken. The past few weeks I have beem glued playing fifa 113. Since this is my first in the ds mily I cannot tell how is the backward compatiblity of the 3ds. Altough an awsome experience along with the ar games and pedometer...
